Born in Tokyo, Japan, Sahara Morimoto is an independent dance artist, based in Toronto.
She has danced with AKA Dance, Angela Blumberg, Antony Hamilton, Citadel + Compagnie (Nova Bhattacharya), Dreamwalker Dance Company, Human Body Expression, inDANCE, Jasad/ Meryem Alaoui, Karen Kaeja, Kemi Contemporary Dance Projects, Toronto Dance Theatre, Zata Omm Dance Projects, and with Peggy Baker Dance Projects where she also was Artistic Associate of the company between 2008-2015. She has collaborated with musician Germaine Liu in Still Life, and with Raphael Roter for Women from Space Festival 2020. Sahara has taught dance and somatic works within Canada, Germany, Israel, Poland, and in Japan. Sahara is a graduate of Canada’s National Ballet School, and later trained at Codarts/ Rotterdam Dance Academie. As a solo artist, Sahara commissioned, Nothing III, by Noa Zuk & Ohad Fishof in 2015, which had Canadian Premier in February 2016. Her second commission by Marcela Giesche, heart – work, was created during residency at Lake Studios Berlin in 2017, that had premiere in February 2018 at Expanse Festival. Sahara is a certified practitioner and certified movement teacher of Ilan Lev Method.
